In 2004 friends Karl, Mikkel and I realised an old idea
of going almost all the way around Britain. Starting in Stanstead Airport,
we moved up along the English east coast through wonderful landscapes.
Reaching the Socttish border, we drove the coastline all the way around
Scotland, including the Orkney Islands! On the way back we visited Lake
District, the English poets' favourite countryside. Below are impressions
from the trip.

On the way up: Mighty Lincoln Cathedral |

I knew! Truth revealed at Whitby Abbey

A good start of the day: English breakfast!

In the countryside: driving through wild Yorkshire

The university city of Saint Andrews |

And as some may know, the city is famous for golf as well.... |

Orkney Islands are full of stone circles and Neolithic monuments:
Skelleig, Standing Stones of Stenness etc. |

And they are home to the two northernmost distilleries in
the world: Scapa and here Highland Park |

Flintstones-like Stone Age village, Skara Brae, Orkney |

Ruined house, Orkney Islands

Wild, wild North West of Scotland |
